Plants add colour, structure, texture and really bring a garden to life. For some people the planting of a garden is an exciting challenge but for others it can be very daunting .......so why not leave the technical bit to us?!
When designing a planting plan we take into consideration existing plants, aspect, soil type, pH, shape, colour, eventual size, growth habit, scent and seasonal interest.
These days, our biggest request is for low maintenance planting so we are experts at providing borders full of colour and interest without the backache!
There are many planting themes to follow. In the age of the hosepipe ban it is worth considering a Mediterranean style dry garden which does not require much watering and produces colour and scent all summer long.
Rock gardens are great for adding vertical interest and colour.
Contemporary architecture and landscaping would be enhanced by lush exotic planting or a minimalist style using just three or four species.
Work with your natural environment. If you are surrounded by trees, plant woodland style plants; if you are struggling to maintain your lawn set some of it aside as a wild flower meadow.
Why not encourage wildlife with an area of natural planting and a bog garden?
If your garden is small create seasonal interest using containers or have one plant that highlights each season.
For a vibrant look choose colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel eg. blue and orange. For a calming effect select colours that are adjacant such as blues and purples.
